چکیده

It is well known that the action of a drug on the intestinal movements in a particular species of animal depends on its functional autonomic innervation. In the present studies T EAC and Ca have been found to increase the rhythmic movements of the adult mongrel dog's intestine (in situ). The gut was subjected to vigourous circular contracractions but without the propulsive motility. These actions are indentical to those obtained in cats. It has been claimed that a functional similiarity exists in the autonomic innervation of stomach in cats and dogs. The above observations substantiate the earlier belief and it appears that a similiar autonomic arrangement also exists in the intestine of these two species of animals. l

Role of the thalamic parafascicular nucleus cholinergic system in the modulation of acute corneal nociception in rats

The present study investigated the effects of microinjections of acetylcholine (a cholinergic agonist), physostigmine (a cholinesterase inhibitor), atropine (an antagonist of muscarinic cholinergic receptors) and hexamethonium (an antagonist of nicotinic cholinergic receptors) into the parafascicular nucleus of thalamus on the acute corneal nociception in rats. Acute corneal nociception was ind...

Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide-27 causes a biphasic chronotropic effect and atrial fibrillation in autonomically decentralized, anesthetized dogs.

We investigated the effects of a neuropeptide, pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide- (PACAP) 27, on the sinoatrial nodal pacemaker activity and the mechanisms for the cardiac effects of PACAP-27 in the autonomically decentralized heart of the anesthetized dog. PACAP-27 (0.01-0.3 nmol) injected into the sinus node artery increased followed by decreased sinus rate. PACAP-27 (0.1 and...

Protective Role of Rheum tanguticum Polysaccharides 1 on Radiation-Induced Intestinal Mucosal Injury

The protective effects of Rheum tanguticum polysaccharide 1 (RTP1), which is extracted from the Chinese traditional medicine Rheum tanguticum, on radiation-induced intestinal mucosal injury was investigated. Rat intestinal crypt epithelial cells (IEC-6 cells) and Sprague-Dawley rats were each divided into control, irradiated and RTP1-pretreated irradiated groups. After irradiation, cell surviva...
